Equipment

  • Grill or skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Meat thermometer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground bison
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs optional, for binding
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for grilling or frying
  • Burger buns
  • Toppings of choice lettuce, tomato, cheese, onions, etc.

Instructions

Prepare the Patty Mixture:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground bison, egg, breadcrumbs (if using), Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until well combined, but avoid overworking the meat.

Form the Patties:

  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties, about 1/2-inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cook the Burgers:

  • Grilling Method: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Brush the grates with olive oil to prevent sticking. Grill the bison patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  • Pan-Searing Method: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.

Assemble the Burger:

  • Toast the burger buns on the grill or skillet for extra flavor. Add your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, cheese, onions, and condiments. Serve immediately.

Notes

Bison is leaner than beef, so avoid overcooking to maintain its juiciness.
For extra flavor, you can add a slice of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or blue cheese) during the last minute of cooking.
Customize with your preferred burger toppings or serve with a side of fries or a salad.
