Equipment

  • Meat mallet (optional)
  • Shallow bowls for breading
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels
  • Baking sheet (optional, for keeping steak fingers warm)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef steak sirloin or cube steak
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk optional, for marinating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers optional, for extra crunch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Country gravy or dipping sauce optional

Instructions

Prepare the Steak:

  • Cut the steak into thin strips (about 1 inch wide and 3-4 inches long). If needed, use a meat mallet to tenderize the steak.
  • For extra tenderness, you can marinate the steak strips in buttermilk for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Set Up the Breading Station:

  • In one shallow bowl, place the flour seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • In another shallow bowl, beat the eggs.
  • In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs or crushed crackers (if using).

Bread the Steak Fingers:

  • Dredge each steak strip in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
  • Dip the steak strips into the beaten eggs, ensuring they are fully coated.
  • Finally, roll the steak fingers in the breadcrumbs or flour, pressing lightly to ensure the coating sticks.

Fry the Steak Fingers:

  • In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the steak fingers in batches for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Use tongs to remove the steak fingers from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Keep warm on a baking sheet if necessary.

Serve:

  • Serve the steak fingers hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as country gravy, ketchup, or ranch.

Notes

You can use cube steak or sirloin steak for steak fingers. Cube steak is already tenderized, making it an easier option.
Serve with mashed potatoes, fries, or a side salad for a complete meal.
For an oven-baked version, coat the steak fingers in oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
